Head of Programmes, Rory Peck Trust
Mary O’Shea is Head of Programmes at the Rory Peck Trust, where she oversees all the initiatives that support freelance journalists. Mary is a programme specialist with over 14 years of experience. At the UNDP Asia-Pacific Regional Centre, she provided technical support to country offices and their regional national partners, and developed and coordinated a regional programme to support the institutional capacity development of National Human Rights Institutions in Asia-Pacific. Before joining the UN, Mary was the Policy Desk Officer in the Human Rights & Democratisation Unit of the European Commission, covering Africa. Mary has also supported electoral processes and institutions in Afghanistan, Jordan, Bangladesh, Tunisia, Lebanon, Kazakhstan, Togo, Thailand, Moldova, Sudan, Timor-Leste, Maldives and Ethiopia. She is co-author of the UN Department of Political Affairs & Department of Peacekeeping Operations report on Integrated Electoral Assistance in Post-Conflict Settings, and worked as an advisor to the Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan during the audit of the disputed presidential election of 2014.
