Bashar Deeb

Bashar Deeb is an open source investigator who graduated as a journalist from Athens university. Much of his work has centered on different aspects of the refugee experience in Europe. He began working with Lighthouse Reports as part of the EU Arms investigations and has since worked with the Bureau of Investigative Journalism on an investigation related to airstrikes on civilians in Afghanistan. He retains a strong interest in his native Syria and the wider region. Since March he’s been focusing on investigating human rights violations on the borders between Turkey and Greece, such as the killing of migrants on land borders, illegal maritime pushback incidents and identifying the maritime assets involved in them, and most recently the role of Frontex in the Aegean border control.
