Freelance Journalist, Digital Media Trainer
An award-winning journalist reporting on migration and society transformations in the Arab region after the uprisings. Asma Abidi is a freelance journalist, media consultant and digital media trainer. She has been a contributor to many platforms including OpenDemocracy, Correspondents.org and DW Arabic as well as a media consultant for many journalism projects including an investigative training program designed by University at Albany Foundation and Thomson Reuters Foundations’ Wealth of Nations project on reporting illicit financial flows in Africa. Asma holds an Engineering Diploma in Applied Sciences and Technologies and studied International Media Studies in Germany, an international masters program with a focus on media development in transformation countries. She is currently one of the IJNet Arabic Powered by Google News Initiative trainers, offering journalists and newsrooms workshops on Google Tools for Journalists. The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) has partnered with the Google News Initiative in a large-scale effort to strengthen the digital know-how of thousands of journalists across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Participants in the program will learn the most effective ways to gather and source information, enhance trust and verification, use data for stories and apps, and embrace immersive storytelling.
