Journalism for Human Rights

Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) is Canada’s largest international media development organization. Based in Toronto, Canada, JHR was founded in 2002 by Benjamin Peterson and Alexandra Sicotte-Levesque in 2002. JHR’s mission is to “empower journalists to cover human rights stories objectively and effectively”. The organization’s vision is for everybody in the world to be aware of their rights.

JHR has partnered with more than 400 media organizations in 28 different countries to train over 15,650 journalists whose human rights stories have reached over 64.5 million people.

Together with the Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ), they have launched the 4th edition of the Human Rights Reporting Award in Jordan under the project “Expanding the Public Dialogue on Human Rights in Jordan through the Media” sponsored by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Amman.

The Human Rights Reporting Award aims to encourage the production of high-quality human rights journalism that can have a positive impact within communities by promoting a constructive public dialogue around human rights issues.
